School...

School is going pretty well so far this semester and I am pleased! I am trying to be a bit more relaxed in some ways. But what I mean by that, is that I am not trying to complete what is in my lesson plans, "or else." Looking back, I see that I would either do really well following my plans or get so discouraged that I would get very little done. So discouraging! What I have been doing instead, is looking at my plans, trying to follow, but also allowing education a chance to happen on its own. It seems more freeing...more about "teaching in that teachable moment" I have heard so many times. I am trying to do a little more group teaching with my three oldest, letting my oldest continue on deeper after the two younger ones have finished. I am also trying to pick up our nature journals again. Science is definitely a weakness for me. I have always been stronger in Reading, Spelling, & History. I am trying to explore more and ask more questions about nature to try to get the kids thinking.

I really love homeschooling and am so honored that we have this opportunity in our family!

Hi Kristi! I've been having a hard time this year HS'ing Caiden--with two little ones, it seems like there's never a quiet moment around here, and when there finally is, I have something else I need to do! We're still trying to decide what to do next year, his "official" year of kindergarten. I love the idea of HS but am having a hard time with the reality of it! So thanks for this--it was an encouragement :)

It's refreshing to hear another homeschooling mom who is enjoying homeschooling. I have just purchased a put together curriuculum and I am reminding myself that I don't have to follow and check off everything. It is wonderful and great to help get started. Cathy Duffy's Top 100 picks book has great recommendations on Science. One that sounds particularly fun is Backyard Scientist. I have also read Diana Warings Beyond Survival and it is the best book on Homeschool I have read to help you get started and refer you to other books to help. I hope you continue to enjoy schooling your little ones.
