Day 26

After enjoying a great night's sleep in a hotel where Presidents Eisenhower & Truman had been former guests, we drove around a little bit in downtown Kansas City.  What a neat city!  I wish we had more time there, but at this point, we are really on a tight schedule.  The schedule has been tough at times, but I am thankful we have had it, as that is the only way we could have seen as much as we have!

Today's destination was Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The plan was to get to the hotel, change quickly, and then head to see their outdoor production of the musical "Oklahoma," which is one of my favorite ever!!  Harvey planned it that way and I am so thankful!  Their production did not start until June, otherwise we would have gone through Oklahoma at the beginning of the trip.

Elizabeth fell asleep right before we got to the hotel.  When we woke her up to take her in and change her clothes, she just kept fussing, which is unusual.  She fussed and kept fussing as we were on our way to the musical.  It was a dinner theater show, we did not know where we were going, and were scared we would be late.  Needless to say, we were a little stressed after having quickly unloaded everything into the hotel.  We had been in the van for about ten minutes (and had at least twenty or twenty five more to go), when Rebekah says from the back seat, "Elizabeth is spitting up."  Benjamin started screaming (??!!), which made everything worse!  Rebekah did a great job of staying calm and cleaning her up as we were driving (it was not a big mess thankfully & believe me, she earned some tickets later for that :).  At that point, I was ready to turn around and go back to the hotel.  I envisioned a night full of an audience trying to enjoy a show while I had a vomiting toddler in the middle of it.  Harvey refused and said that he would sit in the car with her the whole time if necessary so we could see the show.  It was very sweet of him, but at that moment his chivalry was lost on me!  I was frustrated and felt so badly for her.  Well...I just kept praying and do you know that was the only time she spit up all night?!  She ran around the rest of the night, happy as a clam!  I was so thankful, for her sake and ours :).  She never got sick again.  We thoroughly enjoyed the production.  It was a lot of local high school students working concessions, serving dinner, etc. and college students in the production.  They had a wonderful set outdoors in their amphitheater, accentuated by the songs of bullfrogs and a lovely, starry sky!  The weather was perfect as well.  Their production even included horses and a donkey!

Once again, we were so thankful to God for taking of care of us.  We have been blessed on this trip to have such good health and Elizabeth's "episode" reminded us of that!
Here we are with "Ado Annie"
                                                                  The boys with "Curly"

What did not work:  Ticks :(.  Apparently Benjamin got bitten by one during the play, but we did not notice until one and a half days later. Also, and much less importantly ;), the card reader for our camera to download pictures into our hard drive.  Bleck!  I have such a love/hate technology relationship

What did work: Reminders of God's creation under the stars with my family during a Rodgers & Hammerstein musical :).
