Day 4

Hello Dallas!!!  Dallas is a fun city, but I will say their traffic problems make Charlotte's seem almost non exsitent!  Apparently our GPS and their highways do not like each other, further complicating matters.  I really feel sorry for people who live there; I guess they get used to it.

When we arrived in Dallas, our first stop was to the stadium of the Dallas Cowboys.  Honestly, I was less than thrilled to tour the stadium.  Sorry, if you are a Cowboys fan!  I will be the first to admit, however, that I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed myself :).  We had originally purchased the self-guided tour, which is about ten dollars cheaper per person than the one with a tour guide.  When we got there, however, they told us they were not doing any self-guided tours that day.  They were very kind and upgraded us to the gudied tour free of charge!  Yeah!

The tour was very interesting.  Our tour guide was great and gave many details about the architecture and artwork in the stadium (yes, there is artwork inside, who knew?!).  Did you know that there are no support beams in the stadium, but there are support arches?  If you were to straighten the arches, they would equal the length of two St. Louis Gateway Arches?  Pretty cool!  Also, they have the largest "top hung" tv in the world, with the most LED bulbs.  Guess who has the largest tv in the world?  Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC...yes, that it is one of our claims to fame (good, bad, or indifferent :).  The tour ended with our family going down on the field and playing football!  Well, Rebekah & I did not play football, but the others did!  Poor Elizabeth got in the way of Jonathan when he was trying to tackle, but she got over it quickly and was fine.  Trey attempted to kick a field goal, which was really cool, until it landed in an area that was blocked off.  Oops!  The guide had Rebekah climb up and retrieve the football, so all was well in the end :).  On a sidenote, did you know that they clean their astro turf with a type of zamboni machine?  Pretty cool!

The fun thing about our two days in Dallas was that we got to spend time with my niece Morgan who is working in Dallas for the next couple of months :).  Seeing family makes us happy and, sadly, she is the only family we will be seeing on this summer's trip!  She met us at the hotel on Monday night.  After we got settled in our room (the same room for two nights!!), we went to dinner at an amazing steak house.  The atmosphere was great.  Apparently, if you show up in a necktie, they take you to the dance floor in the middle of the restaurant, cut it off, and mount it on the wall.  We have a good friend of the family who loves to wear neckties. He graduated from the Citadel, but we are not going to name any names here.  When we realized their no necktie policy, Harvey laughed and said that he would like to go there with our friend so his tie could get mounted :).

The restaurant also had a sliding board inside!!  The kids loved it, even the big ones.  The only rules were that they had to wear socks and could not scream.  Too fun :).  We were going to split steaks, and then Harvey thought it would be fun to order their HUGE steak and four of us split it.  Our waiter had only had someone order it one other time.  It was delicious.  After our yummy meal, we headed to a Texas Rangers game!  We got there late, after the sun had gone down, which was a great plan.  It was hot enough without the sun beating down on us!  Also, by then parking was free.  Plus, our bellies were full, so we did not need to buy any ballpark food :).  I am not trying to sound cheap, just keeping it real, once again.  The Rangers game was fun and they won!  Although we are true Braves fans, we enjoyed ourselves.

When the day was over, we were ready for bed!  It was a good, hot, long, fun day!

(I have some really cool pics from the Cowboys stadium.  They were taken on our "big" camera and unfortunately, our card reader is not working for that memory card.  If we can get it worked out, I will post later!)
