Return from Wholehearted Moms Conference

One of my new favorite authors, Sally Clarkson, myself, and Baby Queen (The baby had just woken up, that is why she is all hunched over :)

Last weekend I had the privilege of attending Sally Clarkson's Wholehearted Mom's Conference. It was great! Sally was so very down to earth and funny! I walked away from it with a renewed desire for mine & my children's spiritual growth, emphasizing relationships with my children, and beauty within my home. Now, I realize I have to be realistic when it comes to the beauty within my home part :). In fact, if you could see in my home right now, it is a far cry from beautiful. It looks a bit "tornado-ish." I just cannot seem to keep things as clean and uncluttered as I would like...but that is another story for another day! I guess her talks reminded me again of my goals in that area.

As far as the relationships go, she gave some great ideas on developing them with your children. I especially enjoyed when she spoke of her sons, as I have one of my own quickly approaching adolescence. She made me want to take more time in my daily life reading, talking, and listening to my children. She also told of how when their youngest daughter Joy came along, they realized one day that she was involved in all these adult level conversations (due to having older siblings), but not as much on her level. So, Sally started making an effort to put her to bed every night and give time to her individually. She spoke of what it meant to Joy. It truly made me think of our Baby Queen. As she grows, I can see this as being a way I will need to connect with her.

I will admit, life can be difficult. There are many, many days when my husband comes home and I am ready to be "done," and I feel the need to retreat alone. I guess I walked away with another reminder that the longer I am a mom, the less selfish I need to become. I see just how unselfish my own mother was through the years (and still is today). Motherhood is hard!

Sally's two daughters were at the conference and seemed just as beautiful on the inside as they were on the outside! In fact, Joy even held Baby Queen during the last session so I could listen. It was very kind of her and I appreciated it.

Zan Tyler, Rachael Carman, and Sandra Maddux also spoke. I can honestly say that I would have loved to hear more from each of these Godly women. Each of them, including Sally used so much Scripture in their messages; it was wonderful.

Now, I am heading into a new weekend. I will be busy working on my menu for the week, grocery shopping, preparing for Baby Queen's Baby Dedication :), preparing lesson plans, and picking out this semester's choir music for the Homeschool choir I direct. All while trying to make my home peaceful, beautiful, and, who am I kidding?! I think I would be happy to settle for sanitary :).

Have a great weekend!

I recently read her book, Seasons of a Mother's Heart, and felt just like you do about her. She was VERY real and inspiring. While I was inspired to "do better", I never felt like she was talking down to me. I'd LOVE to actually hear her in person. Lucky you!
