A Memorable Wedding with a Great Date

Over the weekend a sweet friend of ours got married. I taught her in children's choir years ago, she started babysitting for us when she was only 12 or 13 and we only had our oldest, I think. I also taught her twin sister and younger brother in choir. Her mom & dad are such a neat couple. Her mom was my "adopted" director in Mary Kay & always treated me like one of her own :).

So, imagine our excitement when she told us last year that she was engaged and then when we received her invitation over the summer! Now, I have to tell you that Lauren was one of Jonathan's favorite babysitters. She is a beautiful girl with long blonde hair that he used to twirl while sucking his thumb when he was a little guy. I think he liked her so much because she would let him watch movies when she babysat :).

Due to some sickness in our house, we decided last night that just Jonathan & I would go (the whole family had been invited). He was so excited! The ceremony was short and then we drove to the reception, which was a sit down dinner. The food was delicious and the view from the historic building was spectacular! For a brief moment, I worried that maybe all of it would be too much for him (too noisy, too late, etc.). But, he was an angel and an absolute gentleman! He was confused about why Lauren would not open all of her presents at the reception. I had to explain to him that brides and grooms do not do that at that time. I think that was a reasonable question. After all, who wouldn't want to open a table full of beautiful gifts right away?!

When he saw Lauren walk in with her new husband at the reception, he got so excited and told me that she looked like a queen! He did meet her husband, but truthfully I think he is in a little bit of denial that he (Jonathan) is not her #1 man :). Lauren's family was so excited to see him, as they all love all of our children...and the stories that Lauren would always tell.

By the end, he was ready to go home. In the elevator as we were leaving, he said, "You & Daddy should have a wedding!" I explained that we already had, but that answer would not do. After all, he had not been there! He was in such a great mood with great manners all night. I do not know if it was the good food, the yummy cake, seeing his favorite babysitter all dressed up, or having some one-on-one time with his mommy. I'd like to think the latter :).

We were able to tell Lauren bye as she was preparing to leave. He was so tired! But, once we got home and he took his boots off...he decided he wanted to go back! Seriously, I had a really hard time explaining to him that we could not go back and that the "party" was over. He would not believe me. I convinced him to go upstairs and show his daddy the pictures we had taken. It was all great until he saw the chargers in my hand. You see, the wedding gifts for all the guests were the silver charges at each place setting (wasn't that creative?). When he saw those plates in my hand, he looked so upset! He said, "Mommy, NO, those are Lauren's plates. We need to go back and take Lauren her plates." I just could not win. Now, he really thought he had a reason to go back, he thought his mommy had taken the plates!!! My husband got a good kick out of that one. Hopefully, he will not think that is what we do when we go out now...oh dear!

All in all, it was a great night. I missed the rest of the family, but it was fun to have some alone time with Jonathan, as it is whenever I get alone time with any of the children. I was just so proud of him and the gentleman he is becoming!

(I have cute pictures to post, but my computer is not letting me!)
