St. Patrick's Day

We had a great St. Patrick's Day together as a family!  There is just something fun about a day that comes in Winter when Spring is just waiting to erupt!  The 4 older kids started out the day putting on new shirts (great Target finds :).  I then made a breakfast of green eggs, green bacon, biscuits, & green milk.  Oh, and my mom even had green Diet Sierra Mist!  You should have seen my hands, I am awful with food coloring ;).
After breakfast, I read "Green Eggs and Ham."  I know it has nothing to do with the holiday, but it definitely has the green theme going on :).  My mom read a book to the children about St. Patrick.  It was a really good story.  Later, I had a couple of other books that I read, along with some fun coloring sheets and connect the dots.
After breakfast and stories, my mom had to leave to go back home.  We worked on workboxes and Trey worked on his subjects, while the little ones napped/rested.  After getting Benjamin up, we painted wooden shamrocks (that I found on sale at A.C. Moore for $.25 each :).  We discussed the Trinity and how the shamrock was used by St. Patrick to teach about God the Father, God the Son, & God the Holy Spirit!  It was fun to watch how each child painted their shamrocks so differently!

While we were waiting for our shamrocks to dry, we baked shamrock cookies.  Okay, not really.  We bought the packaged, already decorated dough.  Which normally I am quite against because I am silly that way.  But they were fun and easy and extra yummy when I let each child decorate some with pretty, sparkly green sugar :).
So all in all, it was a fun day!  The kids had fun telling their Daddy all about their day when he came home from work.  It is nice to have a holiday that is not filled with the stress of shopping and commercialism, but one that lets you just focus on being together and making memories :).

By the way, this is my favorite 4 year old leprechaun :).
