Day 13
Okay, when we drove through Colorado I thought it was amazing...and it was (especially coming out of a couple of days of driving through the desert). Then we got to Utah...wow. What a gorgeous state and we had no idea of its beauty!! The air was fresh and clean, the temperatures were mild, the mountians were snow-capped, and they had Krispy Kreme...okay, to some that was lame but still made Gouches happy :).
The original plan was to swim at Salt Lake. I talked Harvey out of it, and we are both glad I did! We had to drive a bit to get there and once we did, the wind was soooo strong and it was quite chilly! What we did not expect was the smell. There was an awful odor blowing off of the lake. Which, according to the girl that worked there, is worse some days than others. From what we read, Salt Lake has 7-8 times more salt than the ocean!! The only things that live in the lake are brine shrimp and algae. However, they are very important to the ecosystem as the seagull that frequent the island live on the brine (please do not be impressed by my smartness or lack thereof...I'm really not. I have friends that are much smarter. I just fake it sometimes ;). Anywho...we all dipped our feet in the lake just to say that we did! We also drove around the island where we hoped to see the bison that live there. Apparently, 12 bison were brought to the island 100 years ago. Today, there are around 700, with 150 being sold per year. We wanted to get up close and personal, but sadly kept seeing herds in the distance. And then suddenly, we saw one on the side of the road slowly making its way to join his herd. We crept along slowly in the van until we were able to get some pictures! Too cool! We also saw a pronghorn mother and her baby (yeah for Trey at being able to identify, we were not sure what they were :) and a beautiful bird that we are still unsure of.
It was a fun afternoon exploring yet another part of God's creation that we do not have the privilege of seeing in NC.
Today I am going to start with what did not work, so I do not end on a negative note :).
What did not work: The strong winds that slammed a door closed onto Jonathan's finger :(. He was okay after a few minutes, thankfully.
Having to re-organize our clothes and rubbermaid containers from the trailer in the parking lot in downtown Utah. Yes, Harvey was definitely thrilled, especially after having just bumped his head in the trailer.
Ordering pizza for dinner and eating it at the hotel.
Taking restaurant advice from other bloggers around the country! We have found some great ones ;). Marley's sliders in Utah was amazing; I do not know what kind of mushrooms they used on their burgers but they were incredible!!
Thanks for hanging with us and continuing to follow our journey!

How do you like our clothesline for our bathing suits to dry?! You might be a redneck if...yes, we can hear the jokes coming ;).
What worked: Cool temps and strong winds at Salt Lake...apparently if not for those, flies and mosquitoes would have been around in swarms to bite us! We were soooo thankful, even though it made for some bad hair pictures for me :).Ordering pizza for dinner and eating it at the hotel.
