Day 19
We woke up this morning and drove through North Dakota. We did not take any pictures, which I forgot to do when we ate lunch :(. We stopped in a small town for lunch and had pizza. It was fine, except the water had tasted weird and had a couple of black "specks" in it...ewwww??!! We told the kids that they could have a drink once we got back to the van! We did not see anything historical in N.D. For a trip like this one, we have had to stay on schedule and therefore had to make choices about what to see and not see. I am sure there were some great things we could have seen in N.D., but there was too much we wanted to see in South Dakota!
We arrived in S.D. that evening and decided to go on to Mt. Rushmore. But first, we did make a stop at the Honda dealership to get our oil changed. The light had come on and we just wanted to make sure the van stays in good shape. We have been fortunate on this trip that the van and trailer have done so well. Thank you, all, who have been praying for traveling mercies!
After the oil change, we got some Mexican food that I will try my best to forget :p. Enough said. For some reason, we were under the impression that there was a laser show at night at Mt. Rushmore. Well, we were wrong :). It was fine, just different than we expected. We have been to Stone Mountain, GA where there is a huge carving on the side of the mountain (started by the same sculptor that carved Mt. Rushmore--fascinating story if you do not already know it). At night, they do a fireworks/laser show with patriotic music that is pretty cool. So, we expected Mt. Rushmore to be bigger and better. The laser show ended up being a spotlight. It was still cool, just different from what we expected. They had just had a rain storm, which made the temperature drop. Once again, on this trip we were COLD!! Crazy!
It was still fascinating to see and majestic. It made me think about the four presidents with yet a whole new respect again :).
This was what greeted us when we got to Mt. Rushmore! We could actually see the whole rainbow, but could not photograph it. More majestic than anything man could create is God's amazing creation :).
What did work: This verse "The LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
