Day 20

Today we had another meal that I really want to forget.  But I will tell you this much...it involved a monte cristo sandwich deep fried with a strawberry sauce.  Ewww...what is with the food here?  I am seriously missing NC restaurants and my own cooking, to be honest!  Tonight we did finally find a good place with home cooking that was really good.  But I am still trying to banish the memories from the last two meals from my mind...and my stomach!  I think it was because of this, I really did not feel so great today.  I felt that I could have stayed in bed all day, which of course, was not possible.  But, I made it through and was able to enjoy more of God's creation!

We toured Custer State Park and was able to see a bit more wildlife.  Here is the view from one of the tunnels we drove through.  Peek closely to see the view.  Pretty cool, right?!  We thought so :).
These two cuties love hamming it up for the camera!
Our next stop was Crazy Horse, which was fascinating in my opinion.  The man that started the sculpture/carving is now deceased.  But his wife and ten children are still alive.  His children all grew up helping him as much as they could.  He felt strongly that no government funding should be accepted for the project, so that means that everything that has been done has been funded privately.  Harvey saw it as a boy and my sister Tami saw it in the early 1990's.  It has changed quite a bit over the years and progress is gradually being made.  The cost to get in for our family $27., which seemed like a lot to me.  However, once we got in and saw the project and realized how it was being funded, I did not mind it so much.

Here we are at Crazy Horse!
I love this photo that Harvey took of the statue and the actual rock carving. This gives you a good idea of what it will look like when completed.  Rebekah thinks her Daddy should become a photographer.  I think her Daddy is pretty talented myself :). While we were there, they were actually working on his pointer finger, so no blasting was happening that day as the work had to be done by hand.  Get it? Oh, I am so not funny.
Brothers (and how I felt today :)
 Sisters!

We ended our day with a swim at the hotel.  They had an indoor pool with an amazing water slide!  The hotel itself did not feel extremely clean and was rather crowded.  Thankfully, the pool was clean and the Gouch Gang had a blast!  After our swim, Miss Elizabeth, who should have been exhausted, serenaded us (very loudly) with "Jesus Loves Me."  The night before it was "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie.  Ohhh, the joys of seven people sleeping in the same room!

What did not work:  South Dakota food.

What works:  This verse "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.  Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious."  1 Peter 2:6-7

Carried by His grace,
