Day 2

Day 2

Today has involved lots of car time!  We traveled from Atlanta to Alabama and stopped at the US Space & Rocket Center.  It was free for us because we still had a family membership from Lowell Observatory from last year.  It was a very hands-on place for children, which we love!  We definitely could have stayed longer, but only had time to stay for about 3 hours.  Now we are heading to Memphis for dinner and sleep :).

I know the Gouch cousins will appreciate this! Astronauts like Airstreams also!

I thought I would take this opportunity to share about the trailer for our trip. After all, people who know us know that really, it is all about the trailer!  Oh, I am kidding, sort of.  This year's trailer is smaller, which we are excited about as we hope to get better gas mileage :).  Also, the van is driving better without pulling the larger trailer.  It is amazing just how much Harvey was able to fit in it!  He is a great packer.  We are using Rubbermaid containers again that are numbered one through seven.  Each box has one day's clothes in it.  We have a separate container for shoes. There are also three other containers, one with snacks, one with life jackets/towels/tools, and the last one has laundry detergent/baby wipes/paper towels, etc.  We also have small plastic shoe boxes for socks and extra underclothes for little ones if they need them.

Harvey also has the large containers color coded by lids: clear lids for clothes, red lid for emergency/tools, blue for food and supplies.  He brought more emergency supplies along last year, but that was because we were gone longer and going further.

We are not allowing the kids to watch a lot of movies, but we did purchase Season 1 of "The Andy Griffith Show."  We watched some episodes last year and loved it, so we are sparingly bringing out the DVDs.  We also have more "Adventures in Odyssey" CDs to listen to, and plan to download some "Jonathan Park" as well for listening.

In honor of the Mayberry clan, here is a funny quote I just heard while we were riding.  Enjoy :).
