Day 3
Okay, really there is not a lot to blog about tonight. Things did not go quite as planned, but isn't that just life? From things as small as not getting some of the best macaroni and cheese. Ever. at a great restaurant that for some reason, was not so great when we went there, to not getting to go to an amazing spa that Harvey had planned for me and really wanted me to go to, to realizing that a certain quaint little town was really more like a creepy tourist trap. If I were on Twitter right now, this would so warrant a hashtage of "#firstworldproblems." I feel kind of lame even typing this, as I know these are not really problems. But, at the same time, I am keeping it "real" about our trip, that not everything is always perfect, just as in life :).
Anyhow, after an hour of dozing in the car after all of our "excitement" and then finally arriving in Texas, while sitting down at dinner, I apologized to Harvey & the kids. Things did not go my way, or really the way any of us wanted, but that is life. It is not always about me! Being parents involves huge responsibility. It involves dying to self daily, and sometimes that is just so hard! The irony of it all is that just this morning, I had read a devotional by Beth Moore where she discussed the verse about "Casting all of our cares on the Lord." It was such a good reminder for me hours later when I was frustrated with the day's events, bad behaviors/fussing in the car, and just feeling grumpy! We had even listened to our pastor's sermon on Psalm 50 this morning. It was a great message. One verse I like in that Psalm is verse 14, "Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving..." So even with those good words from God this morning, I sure did fail in the afternoon! Anyhow, I guess that is one reason I sign these posts "Carried by His Grace." I am so thankful for His grace that carries me in the good moments and in the ones where I really mess up! I feel as though I have rambled and vented. Sorry if my words words and thoughts were hard to follow! The things I am thankful for today are, watching our church's worship service live (gotta love technology), getting to see Graceland, even from a distance (hey, it was fun and seeing music notes on a gate just make me happy :), safety while driving, arriving in TEXAS, an empty hotel pool just waiting for our family to swim in :), and a yummy dinner where we used a gift card at "Water Garden," as Benjamin calls it!
Carried by His Grace,
