Day 5
After enjoying a yummy free hotel FREE breakfast, we spent the morning at the JFK 6th Floor Museum. It was fascinating. Everyone gets an audio tour with their ticket upon entrance. It was chilling at times knowing that we were in the same spot where Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy. It was a very good tour. Sorry, we do not have any pictures to show for it!
Afterwards, Harvey had researched and chosen a local restaurant, Sonny's Barbecue. We went to the original location that opened in 1910. The BBQ and the sauce were really good. Very similar to NC BBQ, but with a sweet sauce instead. The atmosphere was hot and sticky with a lot of fly-swatting. But, hey, we were good sports about it. I really liked it, but unfortunately, for some of us, it did not agree with us later :(. So, because of this, I am not sure if I would recommend it!
Sitting in the school desks waiting for our food to come out!
After lunch, we got to do something "girly!" We went to the Mary Kay museum. Last year we went to the sign in front of the building, as they were closed since it was a Sunday evening. This year we went inside! The dresses behind the girls and I were designed by Atlanta designers at Leadership Conference. They are all made out of Mary Kay products. Very cool! They used eye shadows, cosmetic brushes, compacts, mirrors, packaging, etc.
It was a relaxing hour. Harvey learned about Mary Kay in his business classes while at LU and I have been a consultant since the month before we got married in 1993. People that know me know that I love their products and all they do to support women's charities.
After our tours and lunch, we went to the hotel and rested for a little bit. We then went to Anamia's Tex Mex restaurant for dinner. We met Morgan again and her three cousins that now live in TX. I have not seen these girls in several years, so it was fun to catch up! Ashley brought her two precious children. She let me hold her sweet 3 week old baby, Barrett. Love!!! She seems to be adjusting to Mommyhood of two littles beautifully with a smile on her face :).
Ryan is just as beautiful as ever and Taylor just amazes me! She is a two-time cancer survivor and now works in a hospital helping families deal with sickness (that is probably not the best descriptor of all she does, she does a lot!). They also brought along another baby that they were babysitting to help out a friend. It was a fun dinner, especially considering that we had so many children!!
Once again, I am thankful for family, both immediate and extended. God is so good!
