Day Fourteen

Another full day...we are getting a little tired, I will be honest.  But, as Harvey said yesterday, the end is in sight :).  We spent some time at a village that we thought was Amish, but really was pretty commercialized.  It was disappointing, but we did enjoy some yummy cookies and we found a sweet little doll for Elizabeth that a (formerly) Amish woman had sewn.  She was very sweet to talk to and encouraged Rebekah with her sewing.  We also stopped by an Amish home for homemade root beer and cold lemonade.  Yum!

From there, we got some sandwiches to go from a deli and headed to Hershey, PA.  We went on the tour, which is just a ride and also saw the 4-D movie.  We did not go to the amusement park, as we felt like that was something we could do at home.  We sampled some yummy chocolate, enjoyed the smells, fought the crowds, and then headed out.

Annnddd.....she still thinks she is the Statue of Liberty

We made a quick stop in Gettysburg.  Which was a shame that it was quick, I know.  And I feel guilty.  The good news is that we live close enough that a weekend trip here is not out of the question for us sometime in the future :).  Nothing about a stop in Gettysburg should be quick.  But traffic, potty breaks, and getting in and out of places with seven, including one wheelchair just. take. time.  We are getting used to it, but it is difficult!

This whole experience is making us more sensitive to those in wheel chairs.  For instance, Jonathan can't see if he is in the back of a group.  Getting through doors and onto elevators takes longer (sometimes just finding an elevator is tough), and remembering to ask him what he wants to see because he can't just go look on his own!  Poor guy.  For those of you that know him, he is pretty independent.  I know this is frustrating for him.

We saw a beautiful, beautiful painting (by a Frenchman) of the Battle of Gettysburg.  It was breathtaking (sorry, I think I use that word a lot when I am writing).  It depicted scenes from the battle and was so lifelike.  We really loved the painting.

After Gettysburg, we met Harvey's roommate from LU, a dear friend who was in our wedding.  We got to get to know his wife better and meet his precious children.  It was really a fun evening and we ended it by going to get ice cream together and letting our kids play.  It was neat to see.  Between us, there were eight children.  Crazy to think about all these years ago when we were just friends hanging out together in college!
